Gaming and Addiction!

Every now and then, I get addicted to a new game! I guess that’s maybe because it makes you focus on one thing, one goal and accomplishing that goal! it all started back from the days of AX-170 Computer (a.k.a Computer Sakhr), a Kuwaiti computer that was targeting the Arab community. I can’t recall the exact date of when we got that one, but I remember being fascinated by the drawing tool in it :).. by the way, we still have it!

After that, we used to play on the Family Atari, and boy, that was something! I guess I enjoyed the car racing game the most, it was like really big thing! the canon that shoots monkeys and the airplanes one!… memories! I can’t remember how many times the hand was ruined and I guess this one ended up being sold to junk collectors!

I can’t remember what came first, the Nintendo games or Microsoft 95. My head is missed up around this era, however, for the Nintendo game, Super Mario was the hit, an epic game that was and still my favorite. Even my Mom played that game! we used to play against each other at house and against cousins and uncles and we were professional players! we would reach the final stage in the game without losing any soul! those days were the golden age!

When we first bought Windows 95 and later on Windows 98, it was all about games! I can’t remember how many games we played on these two! from Tomb raider to Fifa 98, Need for Speed the initial versions. We were pro! proud ones. I used to beat the hell out of my two brothers and it was lots of fun! in Fifa, my brothers hated playing against me as I was a real pro and never left a chance to tease them about me ‘the girl’ beating them 😀

Add to that, Windows 2000, XP and moving forward! My favorite games would be Need for Speed all versions, Call of Duty all versions too! Fifa all versions, Tennis and the great Grand Theft Auto GTAaaaaa 😀

Play station and Nintendo Wii! we have a Nintendo Wii at the office and I spent half an hour trying to connect it to the TV and make it working. Once it was flashing there on the screen I was so full of myself 😀 but then I found that the controllers were not working so!

Am I socially retarded?

image

It occurred to me a while ago that I’m socially challenged and it doesn’t bother me to be honest. However, what brought it up now is because my friend’s wedding is in two days and the only thing I was thinking of whether to reach there a little bit late to avoid the awkward silence or type of chat my friends will be talking to me about or not!

Now, I seriously find it difficult to sit down with my friends and gossip or engage in conversations about their struggle with their kids or spouses and this kind of yada yada chitchat!

Add to that, I find it even more difficult to talk about social stuff and that’s why most of my friends end up asking me about my work and make me feel even more bored with this!

I guess this stopped bothering me overtime, I accepted the fact that I can be challenging when it comes to social conversations. I tried many times to change 🙂 I can talk to you about any topic from religion to politics, art, movies, psychology, technology, science you name it! I can lecture you on the importance of communication and connection and the challenges this interconnected world is bringing, however, I will not going to be able to tell you that your shoes looks nice or is this an amazing bag, what brand is it!

Also, I go crazy when I find someone who I can connect with and talk! I go hyper insane and will loose control over the way I speak and think ending up pushing these people away.

I guess some stuff can’t be learned reading a book or watching a talk on YouTube. Nevertheless, I’ll end up going to the wedding early and read a book on kindle while praying the bride won’t take forever taking pictures with the groom! I’ll never change obviously O_o

Medianeras: one more time!

Turn the English subtitle on the video to understand the thing!

When I first watched this movie (philosophical view of life) years ago, I was stunned! for a developer whose life is shaped and guided by the online world, it was an irony that some Argentinian director sat one day and thought of all of this!

From the great intro above to the last scene in the movie, I was glued! how often you can find your life depicted on the screen (well, without the love story part!) and how often a screenwriter can relate to you on the creation level!

Every time I watch this movie (watched countless times already) I found myself drowning in my loneliness and despair thinking, how this wired interconnected world is the only thing that ever got me! I lay down staring at the ceiling thinking am I an arrogant person who can’t communicate with others or I’m just a developer who finds it a little bit difficult to relate to others on the real side and hence lack the sense of connection and belonging!

When Brene Brown told us that vulnerability is the source of all the courage in the world, she was totally right! she nailed the thing down, however, what she didn’t realize is that people do not want to connect or relate to the true you or the real you! they want to relate to the nice enhanced version of you that doesn’t feel desperate or depressed! that doesn’t know how to laugh except with those they truly care for and that sometimes they may fail to connect but they desperately wish to communicate and connect!

All The Way – a Charles Bukowski Poem

If you’re going to try, go all the way.
Otherwise, don’t even start.
This could mean losing girlfriends, wives, relatives and maybe even your mind.
It could mean not eating for three or four days.
It could mean freezing on a park bench.
It could mean jail. It could mean derision.
It could mean mockery–isolation.
Isolation is the gift.
All the others are a test of your endurance, of how much you really want to do it.
And, you’ll do it, despite rejection and the worst odds.
And it will be better than anything else you can imagine.
If you’re going to try, go all the way.
There is no other feeling like that.
You will be alone with the gods, and the nights will flame with fire.
You will ride life straight to perfect laughter.
It’s the only good fight there is.

A Day in London: Closing Chapter

LondoSjyLines

So by now, you already know that I’m so in love with London! it is one of my long life childhood dreams that came to life in a matter of one day!

If you have been traveling looking for historical places, you will always end up riding one of these hop-on-hop-off buses and it was definitely a life saver. My next stop was Oxford circus, and man wow! the lighting after spending sometime in the Tube and all the shinny shops and expensive places, they were all screaming and I got lost inside the people’s wave getting off the underground.

So I found a small souvenir cabinet that sells the tickets for a hop-on-hop-off bus called “BIG BUS B London” with a great selection of places. I selected the following route: starting from Oxford Circus through Hamleys to Piccadilly Circus, Haymarket, Trafalgar Square, Craig’s court, Whitehall and decided to hop off at Westminster Bridge.

Wow! just wow, seeing Downing St. and Westminster Palace with the gorgeous Perpendicular Gothic style is just a mind blowing experience. Big Ben was standing out there shouting to me and I just enjoyed myself to the fullest.

The Hop-on-hop-off tickets gives you a free ride on a cruise across the Thames river. By the time I enjoyed myself looking across Westminster bridge, enjoying the sun on a cold December day, I was full of joy, full of life 🙂

I kept wandering around the Eye of London area. Went in to see if I can secure a ride but hell no… the lines didn’t end, long lines of people ahead of me and there was no way to anticipate how long this waiting will take. The financial manager in the hosting company I visited in Cardiff advised me not to go to these well-knows sites as it will consume the whole day, his parents waited a whole day to get into the Shard! So I took his advise and weaved myself outta the place.

The cruise was just waiting for me and I took my late breakfast on the boat. The most confusing experience like these are usually how to capture these moments through the camera and looking around for real through your own eyes. I’ve gotta say, since I started taking pictures whenever I traveled, I felt that I didn’t enjoy the thing as much as before. Lots of these memories had gone and what is left is these memories on my laptop! they would say that this is the main reason for photography, however, I know as you know for sure, we are missing a lot looking around through a camera lens.

Most the picture I took inside were not that Awesome, however, the boat narrator was really amazing and thanks to him for all the information I learned cursing the Thames. The route we took was: London Eye, Cleopatra’s needle, Waterloo Bridge, Royal National Theatre, Millennium Bridge, Shakspeare’s Globe Theatre, Southwark Bridge, London Bridge, The Monument, The Shard, City Hall, Tower of London and lastly The Tower Bridge.

I went down at the Tower of London and started pondering around. The sun was really amazing and I was feeling cozy and comfy wandering around taking pictures like crazy. I decided not to get into the castle but wandering looking at the river bank and moving towards the Tower Bridge. What I found was a little sad story! After taking some selfie pictures, I forgot to switch the camera back and since I developed a habit of taking pictures walking without looking actually through the camera, I ended up with lots of half pictures of myself and half an eye!

Walking towards the Tower bridge, you would start seeing the world in a different way. I guess I always loved looking at water (given that Jordan has water resources problems, seeing any form of water is always a blast, something not much people cherish to have!). The view from the top is stunning, I started to video tape this trip, it is definitely one of the best adventures I gone through so far!

On the other side of the bridge, I went to a get some coffee and wandered back to the cruise and went back again to the underground through the Temple station. Back again on the run and it is almost 4 o’clock running around these places. My next stop was, yup, of course, I won’t miss it! It was the Kings Cross 😀

After jumping between a number of trains (it became my joy to wander around the Tube from one train to the other :D) I finally reached my destination. After passing some security checks, I kept walking and walking to find myself passing towards the trains area! I felt stupid for a moment before motioning back and asking some of the security guards about the place! and here I was, finally standing at Platform 9 3/4!

After waiting for almost an hour, my turn came to take a picture behind the wheels 🙂 it was again a dream came true 🙂 luckily, these guys have a shop just next this platform, where I got a Gryffindor scarf. It was really expensive (£32.99) so it was the only thing I get from there. However, no regrets, I wear it till now almost everyday to work 🙂

I couldn’t resist the attempt to go out while the day is wrapping up and the night is falling. On the way back to Paddington station, I stopped once again at the Sherlock Holmes museum and bought more stuff 😀 (I told you I became an expert)

It was really AWESOME meeting you London! Insha’Allah, I will visit you once again in my life 🙂
